Polka Dot Orchard Background

Hello and welcome. Today I have a card for you that uses a digital stamp. I am normally a stamper so use inks, stamps, dies for my cards. But I have quite an array of colouring tools and thought it was time I stretched myself and started using them.

The background of this card is a digital stamp from Polka Dot Orchard. I am so happy with how it turned out. The one great thing I learnt very quickly was that with digital stamps you can resize them. That is so awesome. So I did just that to create an overall background. I wanted the digital stamp to be the focus, so this worked very well.

The stamp set I used is called Bee Hoppy. It's such a cute collection of images.  You can see the image I used in the top right.

I coloured this image with copics. Now I have to say, I am very much still a learner when it comes to using copics. I do have other alcohol markers but they come in colour packs of two colours, so are easy to get your blends right. Copics are a whole another story. But I do have a chart and with the limited number of copics I have, I think this turned out ok.

I'm not trying to make excuses, but I also don't have the correct blending paper. I use my normal white card stock that I use to make my cards with. Told you I was still a learner..lol. I found the whole process of colouring this background surprisingly relaxing. So much so, that I lost several hours of my day. I am sure with practice it will be quicker next time.

One thing I wanted to point out was the black die cut sentiment. On single layer cards like this that have a strong background, unless your sentiments are on a strip of white card stock, they can get lost. Especially so if they are a die cut word like my birthday. So a trick I like to use, to make the die cut stand out more, is to stack several on top of each other. It makes the die cut more robust and bulks it up so it pops off the page a bit and doesn't get so lost in the background.

I hope you liked my creation today and I have inspired you to create some time real soon.

Thanks for dropping by.
Have a great day.
Cheers,
Narelle

  2. This is excellent, you can see why my love of colouring makes it's way in to many of my own creations. I've resisted those 'blends' for so long. I got given 4 at Onstage but still prefer my copics and I'm sure you know why. Time, space, money saving and easy to refill/get new nibs etc. I'm so glad to see you using digi images. My goodness, I've thousands of them. Ever want some digi files that are free but no longer available online, let me know and I'll create a file in my dropbox account just for you only Narelle. x x x
